This was the slogan of a man fondly called the father of modern missions. His life was completely sold out to the task of rescuing the perishing Indians. He has since been called home to rest in the bosom of the ONE he loved and served.

I am talking of no other person than William Carey. He was a colossus in his days. Speaking to convince the clergy and the laity of his days about the need to be more zealous for God in the area of missions, he said “I think the impediments in the way of carrying the gospel to the heathen must arise from one or the other of the followings:

  1. Their distance from us
  2. Their barbarous and savage manner of living.
  3. The danger of being killed by them
  4. The difficulty of procuring the necessities of life and
  5. The unintelligibleness of their language.

William Carey then concluded that if none of these considerations could restrain commercial interests, they should not restrain the Gospel. If people could go for gain, should not we go for God? These five impediments aren’t strong enough to stop people from going for gold. Why then should they be the reasons for our not going for God?

If we are serious about saving Africa from her woes; there is a dire need for us to arise and begin to attempt great things for God. Only after then, we can begin to expect great things from God concerning our beloved continent, Africa. Should this become your catch-phrase in life, only eternity will be able to tell, the impact your life will make for God in your generation.

Life is not just about amassing; it is actually about giving. The magnitude of your faith is determined by what it attempts for God, not by what it names and claims from God. God computes the life of every man not by its duration; but by its donation.
